Outlook
Mornings are cool, and afternoons are hot; fall in Sublette County is here. The first of the bird hunting seasons has opened, and some of us have already begun to scratch that itch. Even with all of that, the best of the bird hunting is yet to come, so for now, we can focus on fishing. Fish are still sipping dries for a significant portion of the day while subsurface fills the gaps.
Rivers
Never miss a fishing report.
Recent Reports
Green River
The Green has been fishing well, especially in sections where more water is available. Fish are sitting deep with this high sun, so when they don’t want to eat on top, try a heavy streamer or dropper/nymph rig. The water is very low so practice caution when floating in a boat.
CFS
Flies to try
Para-Trico, Dime-Piece Spinner, Two Bit Hooker
New Fork River
The New Fork certainly has more water than the Green as is typical for this time of year, but it is still low. Dry fly fishing grassy banks has been productive with flying ants and smaller terrestrials. Medium to large streamers have been producing in low light conditions and in the mornings and evenings.
CFS
Flies to try
Humdinger, Green River Flying Ant, Sparkle Beetle
Seedskadee
The Green below Fontenelle has been fishing well. The moss is a problem, as is expected during fall, but it doesn’t seem to be as bad as usual. Clear troughs will be the best for throwing nymph rigs, but fish will still feed on larger attractors on top.
CFS
Flies to try
Chubby Chernobyl, Stubby Ant, Magma Mysis
Bighorn River
The Bighorn River near Thermopolis has been productive, especially on top. Their lower elevation has kept temps a bit warmer so their hopper/terrestrial season is still on fire. Hoppers have been great, and PMDs and Tricos are coming off in the morning.
CFS
Flies to try
Clipped Hopper, Clearwater Pupa, More-or-Less Hopper
