Drift boat on the water

Outlook

We have had some really nice weather recently, and it looks like that trend will continue through the weekend. Water levels have been on the rise and will continue to rise fairly quickly. Fish have been really active, and we have been finding some really nice ones. Expect fish to move around and spread out as the water continues to rise. We recently got Skwala sun protection apparel in the shop and have been really impressed with the quality and features. Swing by the shop and check out the Skwala hoodies and pants we have in stock.

Flies to try

Ebony, Tungsten Terminator, Worm Farm

The Green has been fishing well but is coming up pretty quickly. The water is still fishable on the upper river but will likely be high and dirty by the weekend. Big bugs such as stonefly nymphs, worms, and streamers are going to be the ticket. As the water goes up, fish will be moving out of the riffles towards the soft edges and in protected water behind structure. Water below Daniel is dirtier and will probably become more difficult to fish as the water rises. Big dark patterns will hold their color the best as the water gets dirtier. Many of the tributaries below Daniel are blown out and putting a lot of muddy water into the Green down lower, causing low visibility in the section.

The upper New Fork is still pretty low and clear for now. Small stones and BWO nymphs have been producing the best in this section. The East Fork has been pretty dirty, reducing clarity down lower, but streamer fishing has still been good in many of the lower sections. We're finding a lot of fish in the riffles and against the cut banks in the lower sections.

Flows are up a little bit below Fontenelle Dam, but conditions are still very good. Insect activity has been good, and this will be your best shot at some topwater action. We have been seeing really good midge, BWO, and caddis hatches. Scuds, caddis emergers, and streamers have all been working well. Look for fish sitting in feeding lanes along seams and in foam lines.
