Outlook
Alert: Fish are spawning. Avoid disturbing redds.
It’s definitely spring here in Western Wyoming, with unpredictable temperature swings and snow in May, but we welcome it. The past few weeks have been chilly and wet, a massive contributor to our mountains still holding snow below 9,000 feet. Right on schedule, it’s starting to warm up this week which should mean more intense fluctuations in river level, but also more food in the system. The rising water should also be an opportunity for more fish to move into the upper reaches of the Green and New Fork Rivers and allow them to spread out.

Recent Reports
Green River
The Green near Warren Bridge has been fishing well lately, mostly with nymphs and streamers. With rising water levels, earthworms are washing into the river, so worm flies are definitely king. With the water warming up, the larger, more predatory fish have been aggressively eating streamers as well.

Squirmy Worm, Drunk and Disorderly, Egan’s Dart
New Fork River
The New Fork has seen color change and rising water earlier than the Green, with small spikes in water levels over the last few weeks. Worms and small to medium streamers have been working great. With the warmer weather, we should begin to see more top-water action.

Seedskadee
The Green below Fontenelle has been fishing quite well lately but beware of spawning rainbows and cutthroat. The classic scud/sow bug and midge flies have been doing well, but medium-sized streamers have been the outlier. Lots of fish are sitting in long, deep runs below riffles and nervous waters.

Bighorn River
The streamer bite on the Bighorn River has really begun to heat up, especially in the afternoon and into the evening. Sporadic hatches of smaller bugs have been happening, and with the warmer weather in the forecast, they should only increase in numbers and frequency. Smaller streamers have been fishing well either on the strip or dead drifted below an indicator with some nymphs.
