Outlook

Fishing has been good, water is on the drop, and bugs are flying. It is go time. We have found some really nice fish looking up, and that is going to become much more common in the coming days and weeks. We are seeing increasing numbers of drakes, stones, and caddis flying around and more and more risers as the water clears up. We still have a few guides available next week, and it looks like it might be a pretty good week of fishing. If you have been waiting to book a trip, don't wait anymore. If you wait another week, you are probably going to miss prime time. Here in the shop, the word is out about topwater fishing, and our most popular dries are evaporating off the fly table, so swing by and stock up while we still have some of the best patterns available. This weekend looks like some really nice conditions, so happy headhunting.

The Green is in good shape right now. Most sections have had a bit of tint in the water but still plenty of visibility. Expect visibility to improve as the water drops over the next couple of days. Watch for fish to move along seams near cut banks looking up for bugs. Recently, worms and streamers have still been fishing well. We have found a lot of fish sitting in soft riffles that drop into buckets, but we expect fish will be moving into more active feeding areas as the water drops.

The sections above East Fork are in good condition and fishing pretty well. East Fork is still putting some dirty water into the system, but there are still a couple feet of visibility in the sections below the confluence. Gray Drakes are coming off in decent numbers in the upper sections, and fish are starting to look up. Fish are still sitting in softer water out of the heavy current, but expect fish to start to move around a bit as the water level drops. Fish are still keying mostly on nymphs and streamers with the occasional riser.

Flows below Fontenelle are a bit low, but fishing has been pretty good. There has been a lot of adult insect activity down there recently. We are seeing lots of caddis and hearing a ton of cicadas. Dry fly fishing has been decent along shallower seams with a bit of speed to the flow. Nymphing and streamer fishing have been good too. Fish are still eating sow bugs as well as mayfly and caddis nymphs. Lighter colored streamers have produced the best on the bright days.
