NOTICE: WATER TEMPS MAY BE HIGH IN THE AFTERNOON. STOP FISHING IF WATER TEMP EXCEEDS 68°F.
Fishing has remained solid this week. We had a couple of storms blow through, adding some much-needed water to the systems, but flows are now on the drop and will likely continue in that direction for a while. With lower water conditions, fishing has been getting more technical, and water temperatures are getting warmer. From a technical aspect, Longer leaders, softer presentations, smaller bugs, and good drifts are going to be the key. With regards to warming water temperatures the best practices are to start and end your day earlier, find areas with faster flows (faster flows keep water cooler and more oxygenated), fish at higher elevations, and use a thermometer to check water temps to make sure you are not fishing water that is warmer than 68 degrees. Another great option during this time of year is to get out and explore the abundant fishing opportunities up in the Wind River Range. We have had some good reports from folks doing some high alpine fishing, and we have a bunch of great patterns in the shop to help make your trip a success.

Recent Reports
Green River
The Green has still been fishing well. Dry flies are still the best game in town, but the occasional dropper or streamer presentation has been producing fish, too. Drakes and foam patterns have still been the preferred patterns, but fish are also being caught on Yellow Sallies and caddis, as well. When days are warmer and brighter, try getting a nymph or small streamer down deep. Look for fish in areas with increased flow, like deeper riffles and cut banks with good depth.

New Fork River
The New Fork has been a little hit or miss, but it's producing some quality fish when it's on. Drakes, PMDs, and foam patterns have all been working well. Get started early and keep a close eye on those water temperatures in the afternoon. We have seen pods of feeders sipping smaller bugs. Longer casts and delicate presentations will help you find success in these situations. Also, sparse patterns have been attracting more fish.

Flows have been dropping recently below Fontenelle, and fishing has been a bit slower as a result. Even with the recent slower fishing, this is still a great option for targeting large fish. Once the fish adapt to the lower flows, the fishing should get better. With the lower flows, expect the levels of moss to start to increase. Scuds, sowbugs, and crayfish are still good subsurface options. Drakes, PMDs, caddis, and foam patterns are all good dry fly options.
