Outlook

It's been pretty nice around town, and that spring fishing itch seems to be spreading. We have been really happy to talk to folks in the shop and see them ready to go get after it. Remember to inspect those lines and leaders before heading out this season and replace anything that looks worn out or damaged. The warm weather late last week gave us a little bump in water and some lower visibility to go along with it. Since then, clarity has been improving as we expect that to continue with the cooler weather ahead. On a side note, the Upper Green River chapter of Trout Unlimited is hosting an Iron Fly tying competition at Wind River Brewing Co on Thursday at 6pm. It should be a lot of fun, so stop by and check it out!

The Green at Warren Bridge is largely free of ice and the water is low and clear. The access road is mostly free of snow for a least a little way up the road. Water clarity lower on the river below Big Piney is still pretty low, making fishing pretty slow, but we have found some luck on big streamers. Clarity should be improving, but larger, darker bugs are good options while visibility is low.

The New Fork has been hit or miss lately, most likely due to fluctuating water conditions. Some people have done well with streamers, while others didn't move any fish on streamers but had luck with worms, and others struggled to find any fish at all. The river is low and clear and will likely remain that way for the foreseeable future. There have been some midge hatches, but nymphing with small profile flies has been the most productive. Fish will mostly be hanging out on drop-offs and in deeper pools, so get the flies deep.

Hot Head Caviar Scud, Sparkle Minnow, Jigged BWO

Conditions are good below Fontenelle. We have been finding the most success with scuds, but streamer fishing seems to be improving. With the warmer weather, we have seen midge hatches and a few BWOs. Small midge and mayfly nymphs are definitely worth a shot. More fish have moved towards the riffles, so look for fish on the seams where the riffle drops in deeper water.
