Outlook

Spring fishing is shaping up nicely. In the shop, we have been working hard to beef up our fly selection and have a lot of really fishy patterns available. Our first guided float trips of the season had a lot of success, and we still have some availability during the early season, so if you are interested in getting out, give us a call. Water clarity vastly improved last weekend, but snowmelt from the warmer weather in the forecast may dirty up some of the water again, so when you go out, be prepared for a variety of conditions.

Flies to try

Prince Nymph, Squirmy Wormy, Peanut Envy

The Green River at Warren Bridge is opening up slowly but surely. The amount of open water has increased, but there are still areas that are completely covered with ice. The access road is still covered with snow, but it looks like a couple more warm stretches could open up some access. Down towards La Barge, the river is open, and clarity has improved. We have not been fishing the area much yet, but midges, worms, and streamers would be a good bet right now.

Flies to try

Holo Batman, Rusty Trombone, Tow Bit Hooker

The New Fork is low and clear around town. While it remains low and clear, fish the deep holes with small midges, mayflies, and stones. If snowmelt from the warmer weather turns the water off color, switch to larger stones, worms, and streamers. Lower down on the river has still had a tint to it, and fishing streamers and worms have been working well. Get your flies deep along the slow seams and in the tailouts.

Flies to try

Rainbow Scud, RL Jig Bugger, Perdigon

Fishing has been good, with small nymphs being the name of the game. We have found a lot of fish drifting midges and scuds in the slow runs with moderate depth and pocket water. Streamer fishing has been slower, but still attracting a couple of large fish. The warmer temperatures should increase insect activity and improve streamer fishing. Now is a great time to get out and find big fish searching for an easy meal. Be sure to keep an eye out for and avoid redds and actively spawning trout.
